Small change, big impact.

Invest in something that truly feeds your community.

At Breadroot, small change can make a big difference. From July 1 through September 30, round up at the register to support the Rapid City Area Schools Unpaid Lunch Fund, helping cover meal debt and ensuring students can receive their diplomas. It’s a simple way to support neighbors and invest in our shared future, your dollars stay right here in Rapid City, making real impact. On Friday, July 11, drop by between 12 PM and 2 PM to meet representatives from the RCAS Nutrition Office. Parents, students, and community members are welcome to come and learn how this fund supports students, both inside and outside the classroom.

The RCAS Unpaid Lunch Fund is part of the Fed & Ready to Learn initiative, a collaboration between the Black Hills Area Community Foundation and the Rapid City Public School Foundation, created to ensure every student receives a nutritious meal, regardless of their ability to pay. As of mid-March 2025, Rapid City Area Schools carried more than $130,000 in unpaid lunch balances, a burden that impacts both students and the financial health of the district’s meal program. RCAS serves over 13,000 students across 15 elementary schools, 5 middle schools, and 3 high schools. Your support of the Unpaid Lunch Fund through Breadroot’s Register Round-Up—selected by our Member-Owners during the Annual Election—helps students across all of these schools focus on learning, not lunch debt. If you’d like to suggest a future Round-Up recipient, keep an eye out for communications around our annual nomination period—typically held in April.
