From January 1st through March 31st, our featured recipient is Black Hills Clean Water Alliance, an organization working to protect clean water throughout the Black Hills. It has been their mission since 2009 to protect our valuable resources for future generations by preventing destructive mining in the Black Hills.

Black Hills Clean Water Alliance is a community-driven organization dedicated to protecting the Black Hills’ most vital resource: water. Since 2009, the Alliance and its partners have worked to prevent destructive mining projects that threaten the health of our land, waterways, and communities—ensuring clean, safe water for future generations. The Black Hills are a uniquely important region—culturally, ecologically, and economically—and serve as critical headwaters for much of the northern Great Plains. The water that flows from these hills sustains local communities, ranches, wildlife, and ecosystems far beyond our region. Protecting it is essential to preserving both our way of life and the natural beauty of this place.

Through education, advocacy, and collaboration, the Alliance has successfully opposed uranium, large-scale gold, lithium, and graphite mining proposals that would put our limited water supply at risk. Thanks to community support—like contributions made through the Co-op’s Register Round Up program—this important work continues.

By choosing to round up at the register, you’re helping safeguard the life-giving waters of the Black Hills and supporting a healthier, more resilient future for our community.
