OUR STORY
THE PRINCIPLES WE'RE BUILT ON:
NO. 01
OPEN & VOLUNTARY MEMBERSHIP
Cooperatives are voluntary organizations, open to all persons able to use their services and willing to accept the responsibilities of membership, without gender, social, racial, political, or religious discrimination.
NO. 02
DEMOCRATIC CONTROL
Cooperatives are democratic organizations controlled by their members, who actively participate in setting their policies and making decisions. Representatives are elected by the membership and are accountable to the membership.
NO. 03
MEMBER ECONOMIC PARTICIPATION
Members contribute equitably to, and democratically control, the capital of their cooperative. Members usually receive limited compensation, if any, on capital subscribed as a condition of membership.
NO. 04
AUTONOMY & INDEPENDENCE
Cooperatives are autonomous organizations controlled by their members. If they enter into agreements with other organizations or raise capital from external sources, they ensure democratic control by their members and maintain their cooperative autonomy.
NO. 05
EDUCATION & TRAINING
Cooperatives provide education and training for their members, elected representatives, managers, and employees so they can contribute effectively to the development of their co-operatives.
NO. 06
COOPERATION AMONG CO-OPS
Cooperatives serve their members most effectively and strengthen the cooperative movement by working together through local, national, regional, and international structures.
NO. 07
CONCERN FOR COMMUNITY
Cooperatives aim to serve the best interests of their communities, considering the well-being of individuals and the broader society.
NO. 08
DIVERSITY, EQUITY & INCLUSION
Cooperatives believe we are stronger when a proactive effort is put forth to engage everyone in governance, management, and representation.
